This is a public holiday weekend. If you are reading this, it is likely you are staying at home and not traveling. Long weekends can often activate or exacerbate feelings of loneliness or a lack of partner.
If that is true for you, use today to plan for Sunday and make the most out of the rest of your day.
Today could be a great day to explore starting meditation. Meditation doesn’t have to be for long periods of time. In fact, when you start you may be able to only do 5-10 minutes of meditations. I find that guided meditations are best for beginners, especially if you have a hard to focusing or keeping your concentration.
Meditation isn’t a quick fix to pain or feelings of loneliness. But it is a wonderful to learn how to connect to yourself and slow you mind. There are wonderful guided meditations by Jon Kabat Zinn on relaxation or connecting you to your body. If you have a subscription to Spotify, you can find guided meditations on there as well.
Meditation is something you practice daily and cultivate. Effects of meditation are usually felt after several weeks of meditating. But the important thing is to start, pick the same time and place every day. If you are feeling alone and down at home, today would be a great to do the research and get started.
You may be thinking, I don’t have the time to fit meditation into my schedule. But often, when I work with my clients and look at their schedule, there is often many minutes or hours of nonproductive down time. They will be watching YouTube or scrolling Facebook. If you want to feel better, you will have to give some of that up. The benefits from meditation will be greater in the long run than mindless scrolling on the phone.
Commit to doing meditation for 30 days. You can do 6 days a week. Run the experiment and see what you find. Pick a short-guided meditation of 7-15 minutes. Get a few minutes earlier to create the time. See what happens.
