So how you feel on the last day of your holiday? Many of my clients express a range of mixed emotions. They may have enjoyed themselves but still can feel. That dark creeping feeling of anxiety due to travel and change. People with histories of early childhood neglect or trauma can be very susceptible to anxiety brought on by what would seem like regular change such as traveling home.
So what can you do to avoid the anxiety, depression or dark feelings of loneliness?
Planning… Yes planning…
Ideally get enough sleep the night before you travel and limit alcohol consumption the night before. You want to have full access to your emotional self soothing skills. Make sure to have regular meals to keep your blood sugar normal as not managing your diet can trigger negative moods.
Preplan the day before.. Make sure you have transportation to airport. Prepack your bags so you can relax and allow yourself enough time.
Depending how long your trip is make sure when you arrive home you take some time to stretch, shower and ideally do a of exercise. This will relieve built up anxiety.
Take a few moments and sit and reflect. Laundry can wait. Enjoy and relax a few moments to remember the feelings of your trip and express gratitude!
All the best
