February 12th 2019

Did you reflect on a relationship with an interest or activity? Are you still confused? No problem. We’ll work it out. We have a whole month of February dedicated to relationships. You just never thought it would be a relationship with an activity or interest.

So today I want to focus on finding that interest. Too often, people get very unambitious and self-defeating when it comes to finding their targets (I use this word target to refer activities or interests). Clients will tell me they go to the gym and they do some reading. But this isn’t a passion. I have worked very hard and long with clients to help them find their target.

A target is something that has a long-term prospect for learning and developing. It is something that will present many challenges from developing mastery and skill to providing challenges physically, logistically and probably financially. All the same things that go into a people relationship. But the cool thing, is that it’ll be in your control and even better at the end of all this struggle you’ll get join and happiness as well as new skills.

Think about it. Think about how much energy you put into all those past new relationships. You do all  this work and then it doesn’t work out and what do you get? Nothing! Heartache. Maybe you get to spend money in therapy trying to get over the person. YUCK!

I want you put all that energy and activity into find your target. The best part with all this constructive suffering you’ll get something, a better life, a more interesting life and a happier YOU!

So a target has a long term prospect. It is beyond just going to the gym or reading a book. You need those things in your life as well. But what are some examples of targets.

Targets:

These are just a few. Many of these ideas have come from clients who have embarked on a relationship with the activity. These all provide the key aspects for a relationship. They are very long term project that will take years to hone in and get better. They present challenges for constructive suffering to accomplishing the each stage of learning and development as well at the reward for mastery. They are such that it will require people who engage to travel, reach out to others and develop community. It is something that in one form or another, they’lll spend time thinking about, planning, plotting, refining, practicing or doing the activity. Most of these have huge communities behind them that people will be joining. Lastly, they have an identity associated with them.

What is going to be yours?
